JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) — Good morning! Indonesian police confirmed that there are seven people dead in a rally riot, calling for disqualifying President Joko Widodo’ victory in the presidential election for alleged election fraud. Moreover, hundreds of people are injured, including nine police officers.
According to National Police’ spokesman Inspectorate General Muhammad Iqbal, numbers of victims are still possible to rise. He said that police has established investigation team for the casualties. They are now looking all aspects for what caused the death.
The police have detained 185 more people on the second day of protest at Election Supervisory Body’ office and its surrounding areas, on Wednesday late evening. By this, around 300 alleged rioters have been detained by police in two-days rally. Recently, police is intensely examining their roles and seeking who the mastermind is.
Followed the fraud alleged, today, Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno camp plan to submit the lawsuit to the Constitutional Court. In the last two days, their winning team are focusing on preparing dispute request over the results of the presidential election to the Constitutional Court.
Bank Indonesia sees that inflation in May could be higher ahead of Eid Al-Fitr. It predicted that the monthly inflation in May would be at 0.51 percent caused by the increasing price of air freight rates, red chili, and garlic.
The projection is higher than 0.44 percent inflation realization in April. Meanwhile, annual inflation is estimated to be at 3.14 percent.
The central bank ensured that price during Ramadan is under control. The Bank also estimated that 2019’s inflation would be at around 3.2 percent.
While, tension between United States (US) and China is still ongoing, as US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is accusing the chief executive of Huawei Technologies Inc., of lying about his company’ lack of ties to the Beijing government.
According to him, Huawei is deeply tied not only to China but to the Chinese Communist Party. So the existence of those connections puts American information that crosses those networks at risk.
US lawmakers also moved to provide about US$700 million in grants to help telecoms providers with the cost of removing Huawei equipment from their networks, and to block the use of equipment or services from Chinese telecoms firms Huawei and ZTE in next-generation 5G networks.
Meanwhile, Chinese Commerce Ministry spokesman Gao Feng said that US must end its wrong actions if it wants trade talks to continue. Feng mentioned that US should show sincerity, especially negotiations can only continue on the basis of equality and mutual respect, if it wants to continue trade talks. He then stressed that China will closely monitor relevant developments and prepare necessary response.
Impacted by the domestic chaos and US – China unsolved trade war, Indonesian Rupiah moved depreciating by 0.17 percent and reached 14,513 against the Greenback.
