JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories)PT Medco Power Indonesia (MPI), engaged in the power sector, will increase power supply up to 275 megawatt in Riau, said its holding PT Medco Energi International Tbk (IDX: MEDC) on Thursday (12/13).
Its unit, PT Medco Ratch Power Riau has appointed Lotte Engineering & Construction as an engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the Riau 275 MW Combine Cycle Power Plant (CCPP) on August. Medco Ratch is a consortium of MPI and Thailand power company, Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding PCL. 
After the declaration of financial close to state-owned power producer PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara on August 23, the site preparation activities has started at the end of November.
The Riau CCPP which valued at US$290 million will be built in the development plan area of Tenayan Industrial Estate, Pekanbaru City. This power plant is expected to start operating in the second quarter of 2021. Currently, this CCPP 275 MW project is part of the National Strategic Project of Indonesia. 
Eka Satria, President Director of MPI said that the power plant is expected to increase the electricity supply to Sumatera power grid and can support in fulfilling the target of electrification improvement in Riau region. 
Established in 2004, MPI is an independent power producer under MedcoEnergi group. MPI Currently owns and operates a gross capacity of 645 MW and operates third-party power plants with total capacity of 2,489 MW.
In the near future, MPI will begin developing Riau CCPP (275 MW) and Ijen geothermal (110 MW) in wes Java. Looking ahead, MPI will continue to prioritize development in the clean and renewable energy sectors.
