JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Lazada Indonesia, a major e-commerce player in the country, plans to launch its own payment system this year, following the path undertaken by Go-Jek with its Go-Pay.

A number of e-commerce players have submitted application to Bank Indonesia to provide e-payment system, such as Bukalapak with its BukaDompet and Tokopedia with its TokoCash. Lazada, which is now controlled by Alibaba, looks to move in the same direction.

“We have something in the pipeline. What we are doing now is how to collaborate (with Alibaba). Alibaba has everythin. They have already wallet system in Indonesia. So, we will collaborate with it,” Achmad Alkatiri, Chief Marketing Officer of Lazada Indonesia, told reporters last week.

Alkatiri added Lazada will also launch its own e-wallet later this year, called payment Lazada. (*)
