JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Indonesian cellular operator, PT Indosat Ooredoo Tbk (IDX: ISAT) has elected its new Board of Directors and Commissioners, in extraordinary general meeting of shareholders held Wednesday (16/10). Chris Kanter, was appointed as President Director.
Who is this man?
Kanter was previously Indosat Ooredoo Commissioner for 8 years. He is a well-known businessman who has great track records in Indonesia’s economic and political scene.
This man is founder of Sigma Sembada Group, heavy equipment contractor in transportation and logistic. Kanter also held top official positions in PT Bank BNP Paribas Indonesia as Deputy Commissioner, and International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations for Asia Pacific as Deputy Chairman.
Moreover, Kanter is a Founder Board Chief of several institutions such as Swiss Germany University, Global Entrepreneurship Program Indonesia, and Indonesian Services Dialogue.
He is also Governor Board of East West Center, an institution for cultural and technical interchange to strengthen relations between Asia Pacific countries and United States.
Kanter was also in Indonesia’s political map, as People’s Consulative Assembly member in 1998 to 2002. Then involved in government-related institution, Chairman of Indonesia-Germany Chamber of Commerce in 2007 to 2009, president’s economic adviser for National Economic Committee in 2009 to 2014, also Capital Investment Coordinating Board member in 2010 to 2014.
He was once Senior Adviser of former Trade Minister Rahmat Gobel back in 2014, and Deputy Chairman of Indonesia Chamber of Commerce in 1994 to 2015. Now, Kanter is Senior Adviser the chamber and Indonesia Businessmen Association.
Kanter was in the monitoring team member for Presidential Instruction about Indonesia’s investment climate development policy package which brought him to lead some big international events in Indonesia. Kanter is also frequently invited as speaker in international meetings, conferences, high level seminar abroad.
His extensive experience in national and international forum is expected to sail Indosat’s boat well, amid the company financial compression.
In the first semester of 2018, Indosat recorder Rp693.72 billion (US$44.12 million) loss. Whilst its revenue decreased by 26.78 percent to Rp11.06 trillion.
