Indonesia's Blue Bird Launches e-Taxi, Electric Taxi Fleet
Blue Bird Group launched the "e-Taxi", an electric taxi fleet for Blue Bird and Silver bid services with the BYD e6 A/T and Tesla models x 75D A/T.

JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Indonesian online taxi company, Blue Bird Group launched the “e-Taxi”, an electric taxi fleet for Blue Bird and Silver bid services with the BYD e6 A/T and Tesla models x 75D A/T. The new service is expected to start operating in May 2019.

President Director of Blue Bird Group Holdings Noni Purnomo, said that through this innovative breakthrough in electric vehicles, it was part of Bluebird’s commitment to support environmental conservation, especially in improving quality in Jakarta.

“Today is Earth Day and to celebrate that we launched an electric taxi. As a pilot project, we will launch 30 taxi units with the theme “Birukan Langit Jakarta, means Jakarta Skyline,” he said at the launch of e-Taxi in Jakarta today (04/22).

Meanwhile, PT Blue Bird Tbk (IDX:BIRD) Director Adrianto Djokosoetono, added the company plans to operate 200 electric cars by 2020. It is expected that with this new fleet, Bluebird will eliminate 434,095 kilograms of CO2 emissions or 1,898,182 liters of fuel consumption.

Besides, the addition of 2,000 units of electric cars in the period 2020-2025 will eliminate 21,704,760 kilograms of CO2 emissions or equivalent to fuel consumption as much as 94,909,091 liters.

Djokosoetono revealed that it took one year for Blue Bird to launch e-Taxi. Today, he said, a year after meeting with various institutions authorized by the company could realize the launch of e-Taxi.

Furthermore, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Ignasius Jonan, acknowledged that the government was actually embarrassed to have prepared a presidential regulation for a year but had not yet finished. He appreciated the Blue Bird initiation which directly implemented the electric car program in Indonesia.

“National Electricity Company will build a general electric filling station of 1,600 units in Jakarta to support the electric car program in the country,” he said in the event.

While, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, stressed regarding tariffs there must be added value for users.

On the other hand, Maritime Coordinating Minister Luhut Binsar Panjaitan, added this is an important moment because there is one national child who dares to implement an electric car program in Indonesia.

The government, he said, would provide incentives for business people who want to run electric car programs in this country. He also encouraged the use of domestically-made cars while electricity could be with foreign or domestic producers.

The ex-general stated, lithium batteries began to be produced in the Morowali Special Economic Zone, in Southeast Sulawesi. Energy security is very important because Indonesia still imports Rp350 trillion in fuel oil and causes a deficit in the trade balance that has not improved, he added.

This year, Blue Bird will focus on vehicle change and increase the utilization of operating vehicles by estimating capital expenditure (capex) of around Rp1.5 trillion for vehicle purchases.

As known, Blue Bird was established in 2011 as an open company in the field of passenger transportation and land transportation services that have 15 subsidiaries in 18 locations in Indonesia. Blue Bird has been listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange since November 5, 2014.

The integration of the company’s business is divided into four main pillars of regular taxis with the Blue Bird and Pusaka brands, executive taxis with the Silver Bird brand, limousine vehicles and car rental under the Golden Bird brand and bus rental services under their brand Big Bird.

Currently, the taxi manager operates 36,000 taxi units.
