Indonesian police set Ahok as a suspect on blasphemy

Indonesian police set Governor of Jakarta Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) as a suspect on blasphemy after making a discussion with some expert witnesses, said police chief Tito Karnavian on Wednesday.

“The evidence we have checked and there are several documents to proceed to investigation. An expert witness thought incisive and I also got reports and 21 investigators is discenting opinion although dominated this criminal but are not unanimous . Hence agreed to finish this court will be open,” He said a the press conference.
Tito continued, there are sharp differences of expert witnesses and on this decision Ahok are not allowed to go abroad and the sprindik to be issued soon by the police soon.

Meanwhile Ahok was pleased the case was brought to court because it would be seen by the public and he said ready to face the court.

The results of his case in the investigation of cases of alleged blasphemy by Ahok, being formulated investigators on Tuesday. His case took place on Tuesday morning at 9:00 am until 18:20 pm.

Chairman of the Islamic Defenders Front Rizieq Shihab said earlier, FPI as the rapporteur will prepare new evidence for the benefit of his case is on Wednesday morning. According to him, some experts consider FPI lack of evidence. Criminal experts, he said, just look at the evidence of the complainant submitted recordings. Meanwhile, Rizieq claiming it had handed over a tape.

“So this evidence would we submit, that this criminal experts will be more confident on the alleged defamation of religion,” he said.

In his case, the investigation team explained the results of the investigation. Also revealed a number of witness statements and expert ever questioned. Thereafter, the complainant was given the opportunity to describe the points that they submitted reports to the police.

Then, experts from the complainant, reported, and police filed a statement of opinion about the offending letter Ahok Al Maidah verse 51 when speaking in front of citizens Thousand Islands.

Previously on Nov.4, massive demo held by several Islamic organizations against inactive Jakarta Governor asked government to set as a suspect on blasphemy. The rally involved around 100,000 sympathizers of Islamic organizations, might only affect the incumbent’s electability in the eyes of undecided voters.

Jakarta saw a massive rally demanding criminal prosecution of Ahok over alleged blasphemy when he cited a Quranic verse during a work visit in Thousand Islands regency on Sept. 27.
