JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Indonesia posted inflation 0.44 in April 2019, higher than a prior month of 0.11 percent, said Statistic Bureau today (05/01). On an annual basis, the inflation rate recorded 2.50 percent, slightly up compared to March at 2.48 percent.
While core inflation stay at 3.06 percent, said the chairman Suhariyanto at his office. Of the 82 cities, 77 cities experienced inflation and five cities experienced deflation.
He explained, the highest inflation occurred in food ingredients 1.45 percent and transportation 0.28 percent. Suhariyanto added, that food commodities contributed to inflation by 0.31 percent contributed by shallots and garlic 0.09 percent inflation.
In addition, there are groups of processed foods, drinks and cigarettes. The increase in filter cigarettes contributed 0.01 percent. Then the housing, water, electricity and gas inflation group was 0.12 percent with a share of 0.03 percent.
He stated, the increase in the price of food commodities needs to be a concern so as not to get higher before and during Ramadan. Going forward, Bank Indonesia Governor Governor Perry Warjiyo, the central bank remains wary of soaring inflation ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
Therefore, the Central Inflation Coordination Team plans to hold regular meetings throughout the month of Ramadan to monitor price controls. Warjiyo said that transportation tickets would be the greatest contribution of inflation ahead of Ramadan, mainly airplane tickets.
However, the food price movements are still in monitoring because they are included in volatile food inflation on average always accounts for 20 percent of inflation. He estimated the inflation rated by the end of this year around 3.1 percent.
