JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - Singapore’ Temasek Holdings and PT Astra International Tbk (IDX: ASII) has invested US$80 million in Halodoc, a health-tech startup, said the company on Wednesday (04/21). Other first-time investors taking part in the funding round are PT Telkomsel Mitra Inovasi, the venture capital arm of mobile operator PT Telekomunikasi Selular and Bangkok Bank Public Co. Ltd.

“As part of a strategic initiative to accelerate digital transformation in March and April 2021 (we) has invested about $5 million in Sayurbox and $35 million in Halodoc. Astra Group is the main investor in the new funding rounds from the two startups from Indonesia,” said president director of Astra, Djony Bunarto Tjondro, in a written statement yesterday.

The conglomeration firms invested in the two companies through its venture capital arm, Astra Digital Internasional. Beside the”new investors”, the existing shareholders such as Openspace Ventures and UOB Venture Management also also involved in the round. Other existing investors in Halodoc include the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and a decacorn, GoJek.

in March 2019, one of the leading healthcare platform, has raised $65 million in Series B funding from UOB Venture Management Private Ltd., Singtel Innov8, Korea Investment Partners Co. Ltd., and WuXi AppTec. With the fresh funds, the producer aimed to develop technology and infrastructure as well as to broaden strategic partnerships with hospitals and healthcare providers across the nation.

Its the second major financing round for Halodoc since its establishment in April 2016. The provider is a digital healthcare platform that includes a mobile app and website allowing customers across Indonesia to have live consultations with more than 20,000 licensed doctors in the country, anywhere, anytime.

Jonathan Sudharta, founder and CEO Halodoc, said the company has provide 20 million customers, of which half reside outside Java. The provider has joined forces with more than 1,400 hospitals and healthcare providers in a nationwide partnership to improve the hospital visit experience. He explained, the new funding use to perfect the online to offline healthcare experience with hospitals and insurance partners.

Halodoc offers tele-consultation with doctors and an online drug delivery service on its app. Since the coronavirus outbreak, the tech firm also started to offer a platform helping patients book COVID-19 tests and hospital appointments.

Early this month, the startup had shut down one of its business units and the company’ revenues in the third quarter of 2020 “dropped by more than 50 percent” from the previous three-month period. While, Sayurbox is a farm-to-table grocery e-commerce platform and distributor of fresh goods.
