JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - Indonesia’s domestic car sales, excluding low cost green car (LCGC) reached 1,061,735 units in 2016, up slightly by 4.8% from 1,013,291 units in previous year, PT Astra International Tbk (IDX:ASII) announced, citing Gaikindo data.
Total LCGC sales in 2016 rose 42.4% to 235,171 units from 165,434 units in previous year. Therefore, total car sales, including LCGC, reached 1,296,906 units, up 10% from 1,178,725 units in previous year.
Total non-Astra car sales in 2016 reached 470,877 units, fell 6.4% from previous year of 503,067 units.
Astra International recorded car sales of 590,858 units, excluding LCGC, up from 510,224 units in previous year. Its LCGC sales totaled 163,313 units, surged from 92,730 units in previous year.
Astra’s market share, excluding LCGC, rose to 56% last year, compared to 50% in previous year, while its market share including LCGC increased to 69% from 56% in previous year.
Astra said Toyota brands contributed the largest sales, totaling 382,610 units in 2016, up from 322,466 units in previous year. Daihatsu brand recorded sales of 189,683 units, up from 167,808 units, while Izuzu brand booked sales of 16,724 units, down from 19,350 units in previous year. (*)
