JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) –  Indonesian government will release a national gas balance which will show the total supply of gas, producers and consumers across the country. The government will also develop gas as one of the prime movers of the economic growth, and not only as a commodity as it is now treated.

Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR) Deputy Minister Arcandra Tahar made the statement after attending a discussion on gas with all gas stakeholders at the State Palace on Thursday (13/09).

“God’s willing, the new gas balance will be accurate. It shows potential production across the country, areas with over supply, areas of consumers, and where and how it can be developed further,” he said.

The dialog was focused on how Indonesia should develop gas as the prime mover of its economic growth, adds by Tahar. “We will use it to increase the value chain of our industries. It can be used to support the development of petrochemical products, fertilizers and others,” he explained.

“We’ll devise a strategy that will integrate all sectors, from the ministry of EMR to industry ministry, to finance ministry and to other players, so that the gas use for industries can create a maximum added value,” he added

Tahar said, that the public dialog was also attended by representatives of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry , finance ministry, industry ministry, presidential staff office and other stakeholders.

The MEMR’s Oil and Gas Director General Djoko Siswanto commented that the new gas balance will separate the gas for retail industry and for non-retail industry, but the volume will be still the same.

Designed for the time frame of 2018-2027, it will consist of six regions, and three scenarios of demands to estimate the national gas demand in Indonesia.
