JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Ego Syahrial was sworn as Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), replacing I Gusti Nyoman Wiratmaja Puja, who serving since 2015.
Ego previously served as Head of the Geological Agency at the MEMR. He was inaugurated in August 2016 and replaced Surono, who is often called “Mbah Rono” who get into retirement date.
He completed his bachelor degree in petroleum engineering at Trisakti University. Then hold a Master Degree at Imperial College London and Ph.D at University of London for the same major. Ego was long enough-serving at MEMR, including working at Lemigas, R&D centre for oil and gas technology at the ministry.
MEMR Ignasius Jonan, said his decision to appointed Ego base on his experience and education background. He hopes, Ego can push the enhanced of oil recovery (EOR) activities. In the Revised State Budget for 2017, oil lifting is targeted to reach 815,000 barrels per day (bpd) while gas lifting is targeted at 1,150,000 barrels equivalent oil per day.
By 2020, the government is targeting the EOR contribution to national oil production to increase with the amount of recoverable reserves up to 2.5 billion barrels to anticipate the average decline in oil production by 6 percent per year.
“We need to geology expert to improve the oil and gas exploration, including efforts to conduct with right and better EOR,” said Jonan.
Jonan rotates Wiratmaja to the new position as Head of Human Resources Development Agency at MEMR. He appreciated the performance of Wiratmaja as Director General of Oil and Gas, especially when help Jonan to improve regulation as well as oil and gas governance in the last 10 months.
Wiratmaja is a professor at the Bandung Institute of Technology. He hold Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering at ITB and got Master Degree and Ph.D in the Mechanical Engineering at University of Kentucky in United State. (MES/RF)
