China Harbor, Sheraton, Sofitel invest US$1 billion in Tanjung Kelayang

JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Tanjung Kelayang Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Bangka Belitung provicne began flooded by investment worth US$1,06 million (Rp14 trillion) to build of ports, hotels and resorts, the senior official said.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution, Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Bangka Belitung Island Governor Erzaldi Rosman and Belitung Regent Sahani Saleh witnessed the signing of the investment agreement between three foreign investors Accor Asia Pacific (Sofitel), Starwood Asia Pacific Hotels and Resorts (Sheraton), and China Harbor Engineering Company with Belitung Maritime as a consortium of KEK Tanjung Kelayang management.

The first agreement was made between PT Belitung Pantai Intan and China Harbor Engineering Company, which will undertake the development of Tanjung Kelayang SEZ with an estimated investment value of $1 billion. The entry of China Harbor investment in Tanjung Kelayang is a manifestation of international corporation’s investment interest in tourism potential and geostrategic position of Bangka Belitung.

Second agreement was signed between PT Hypatia Karya Pratama and Accor Asia Pacific to build Sofitel Hotel and Resort with an investment plan of Rp 400 billion. And third, the investment signed by PT Setra Gita Nusantara and Starwood Asia Pacific Hotels and Resorts to build Sheraton Hotel with an investment plan of Rp418 billion.

Mr. Nasution appreciated that the the management of Tanjung Kalayang was quick to attract investment. He also hopes that investment commitments can be realized soon.

“The government is committed to accelerate the development and improvement of road infrastructure, clean water, electricity, and includes upgrading Hanandjoeddin Airport status into an international airport,” he said.

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi hope, the upgrading of the aiprort will boost tourists visit to Belitung. He added, state-owned airport operator PT Angkasa Pura II provided around Rp300 billion to develop Hananjoeddin airport.

Currently, the airport has only 13 flights a day or only carry 800,000 passengers a year. Therefore, the upgrading status of the airport into an international airport is expected to increase capacity to carry three million passengers a year.

KEK Tanjung Kelayang is established through Government Regulation no. 6 of 2016, on March 15, 2016, with an area of ​​324.4 ha. Belitung Maritime Consortium explained that Tanjung Kelayang area will be built gradually, based on the concept of “heritage.” (RF)
