JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – An explosion has occurred at Indonesia’s National Monument park, near to the presidential palace in central Jakarta, according to Indonesia’ national police. The areas also near to major government offices in the capital city including two coordinating ministry, home affairs ministry, and others.

Regional Police chief Gatot Edy Pramono, said the explosion took place just after 7 am local time. He said that so far two army officers had been identified as victims who had been injured in the explosion. Both suffered injuries to their hands and feet and are currently being treated in hospital.

The cause of the explosion was due to a grenade explosion, but whether it was a terrorist attack, is not yet clear. The bomb squad and police dog are scouring the area.

“We haven’t concluded that (terror) yet. This is only a smoke grenade. We will conduct an in-depth investigation specifically why there are items (grenades) there,” Pramono said, adding, after conducting a sweep, no explosive material was found other than the exploded grenade. The combing team only found pieces of the explosion.

He explained, the park explosion was suspected to have been caused by a smoke grenade, and two injured military officials had been taken to hospital. Jakarta military chief, Eko Margiyono, added, the two injured officers were doing exercises in the park at the time.
