JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Asman Abnur, the administrative and bureaucratic reform minister, could be the first victim of the 2019 Presidential Election. As his party, the Amanat Nasional Party joined the opposition camp, the President has no option but to remove Abnur from the ministerial post.
His likely successor is the national police deputy chief Commissioner General Syafruddin. The appointment will certainly fuel more speculation on the ruling party Demokrasi Indonesia Perjuangan Party’s closeness with the national police. Syafruddin had been the aide of Vice President Jusuf Kalla in 2004.
Yesterday, Minister of Administrative Reform and Bureaucratic Reform Asman Abnur has sent his resignation letter to the Minister of State Secretary Pratikno. Pratikno at the Presidential Palace on Tuesday (14/08) admitted that President Joko Widodo would reshuffle his cabinet today.
Based on President Office agenda for today, the inauguration of Syafruddin as a new minister will held today and the Merdeka Palace.
Currently Syafruddin served as deputy chief of the Indonesian National Police from his previous position as the Police Education Institute
Before becoming the number two person in the National Police, Syafruddin had filled several important positions in his career, including the aide of 2004 Vice President Jusuf Kalla, North Sumatra Deputy Regional Police, South Kalimantan Regional Police Chief, Head of the Professional and Security Division and took office in 2015.
The Deputy Police Chief’s position was held after the previous official, Commissioner General Budi Gunawan, was appointed as the Head of National Intelligence Agency
by President Joko Widodo on Sept. 9. Gunawan replaced Sutiyoso who has led BIN for about a year.
Meanwhile Syafruddin position as depuy chief of National Police will took over by Jakarta Regional Police Chief Idham Azis. His replacement will decided soon.
