JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - The Islamic Research and Training Institute (IRTI), a member of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Group, will discuss the issue on how to leverage Sukuk potentials to support the infrastructure development at a forum being held in Jakarta.
IRTI is organizing the forum under the auspices of the first Annual Islamic Finance Conference, in conjunction with the 41st IDB Group Annual Meeting. The forum is aimed at promoting the use of Islamic financing to fund infrastructure projects and to enhance financial inclusion.
Experts and policymakers will discuss the issues surrounding regulatory frameworks, structuring innovative Sukuk, Sukuk issuance for infrastructure financing, and developing new product structures.
“The forum will provide better appreciation of the challenges associated with Sukuk issuance, and generate ideas to facilitate and encourage more innovative Sukuk issuance particularly for infrastructure financing,” IRTI Director General, Prof. Mohamed Azmi Omar, said.
The Sukuk forum is one of IRTI’s four side events during the IDB Annual Meeting in Indonesia.
Representatives of 56 member nations, as well as the bank’s governing board, kicked off the 41st IDB annual meeting in Jakarta on Sunday. The bank’s president, Ahmad Mohamed Ali, said IDB has provided finance worth more than $115 billion to member countries since starting its operations 41 years ago.
The IDB Group is preparing to undertake the next Member Country Partnership Strategy (MCPS) for 2016-2018, Ali added. Establishing a new Islamic “megabank” within the year is also on the agenda of the Jakarta meeting. (*)
