Indonesia’s non-oil and gas export projected to rise by 9% in 2016

JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Indonesia’s Trade Ministry office said that the country’s non-oil and gas exports are projected to rise by 9 percent in 2016 compared to last year’s non-oil and gas exports, amounted to US$131.7 billion, boosted expected recovery in some countries, which are main trading partners of Indonesia.

Trade Minister Thomas lembong said last year the volume of non-oil and gas exports edged up, however, the exports value declined on falling commodity prices.

“As for 2016, I am more optimistic supported by global and Indonesia’s economy. I notice that the US economy started to recover,” he said.

Some of Indonesia’s economic indicators also show positive trend, as indicated by the rise of investment, the development of infrastructure by the government as well as deregulation packages to stimulate economic activities.

In the next four years, Minister Lembong projected Indonesia’s exports to increase by an average of 11 percent.

He said exporters have done their job by diversifying their exports destinations, while the government does what it should do, namely launching deregulation packages to boost domestic activities as well as foreign direct investment.

Given this circumstance, the Trade Ministry will carry on the CEPA discussion and set up a special team whose members will come from other ministries and related agencies. The government has also set up a team to study the implication of TPP on the country.

Indonesia, he said, is also seeking to reach trade agreements with Australia, Lithuania and Sweden

Indonesia is seeking to exports commodity products to Switzerland and Norway, such as cacao, coffee bean, tea, sugar, coconut, spices, fish and renewable energy products. Food and beverage products are also good for the two countries and other European countries.

Minister Lembong said Indonesia has a number competitive products such as textile and clothing, footwear, fashion, processed food, snacks, forestry products, wood and maritime products.
