JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Indonesian information and communication (ICT) ministry has picked three telco operators, PT Telekomunikasi Selular, PT Smart Telecom Tbk (IDX: FREN), and Hutchison 3 Indonesia (Tri) go to the next 2.3 gigahertz of 2360MHz – 2390MHz spectrum tender, it said on Monday (14/12). The other participants, PT Indosat Ooredoo Tbk (IDX: ISAT) and PT XL Axiata Tbk (IDX: EXCL) has been declined.
In August, the ministry announced the auction of the radio frequency band for wireless broadband services. The frequency broadband wireless access introduced in 2009 has 15 zones.
Zone 1 for Aceh and North Sumatra. Zone 2 for Riau, Jambi and West Sumatra. Zone 3 for South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung, Bengkulu and Lampung. Zone 4 for Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi. Then, Zone 5 for West Java except Bekasi and Bogor. Zone 6 for Yogyakarta and Central Java. Zone 7 for East Java and Madura
While, Zone 8, for Bali, West and East Nusa Tenggara. Zone 9 for Papua and West Papua. Zone 10 for Maluku and North Maluku. Zone 11 for South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi and West Sulawesi. Zone 12 for North Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi and Gorontalo. Zone 13 for West Kalimantan and Central Kalimantan. Zone 14 for East Kalimantan and South Kalimantan. And, Zone 15 for Riau Islands.
At present, the residents in frequency 2300 MHZ is PT Berca Hardaya Perkasa, who settled in Zone 8 and Zone 3 with 30 MHz and Zone 1 with 15 MHz. Setiawan said, the frequency auctioned aims to meet the spectrum needs for fast internet broadband for cellular operators in Indonesia.
The ICT ministry also in the process to compiled a roadmap for the development of the 5G internet in Indonesia. This program will start running in the third quarter of 2021. The regulator has prepared three frequency spectrum provision schemes. First, the low layer preparation by utilizing the 700 MHz frequency spectrum utilized by analog television. Next year this spectrum is empty due to the migration to analog television.
Beside, said the director general at the ministry, Ismail, on Friday, the ministry will releases 2.6 GHz in 2025 and will be utilized in 2022 or 2023. The development of 5G has been carried out since 2015 with Indonesia following developments in the International Telecommunications Union. In 2017, a number of operators began conducting trials for 5G.
