JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry has wrapped up the bidding process for 1,975 infrastructures projects.
The tender process began in September, much earlier the tender process in previous years. The government will spend Rp 17.92 trillion ($1.31 billion) for the projects.
The above projects were part of total 6,317 infrastructure projects to be developed by the government in 2016 in line with the 2016 State Budget. The goverment will spend Rp55.11 trillion for the projects.
“Some of them are multi years projects. We expect to start developing the projects in early January,” Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadilmoeljono said.
He added that to support the projects the ministry has order 500 excavators from state-own heavy equipment producer PT Pindad.
In 2015, the government is targeting to allocate up to Rp118.5 trillion infrastructure projects, such as building 13 reservoirs, 180 thousand hectares of irrigation, 42 kilometers (KM) of coastal protection, 2,650 KM concrete pathways -including 1,600 KM along the Kalimantan border and developing 1 million homes for 603 thousand poor people.
Basuki explains that part of the projects are to reactivate the longest bridge in Kalimantan, from West Kalimantan to East Kalimantan, Cipali Toll Road on Java Island and East Nusa Tenggara and Jati Gede reservoir projects.
Until 2019, the ministry plans to build 65 reservoirs. thirteen reservoir have already been started in 2015 and 16 reservoirs were stalled in 2014. Currently, 320 reservoirs have the capacity to accommodate 15 billion cubic meters of water.
Starting next year, the government plans to build eight new dams, 60 thousand hectares of irrigation, rehabilitating 47 hectares of irrigation, 769 kilometers of new roads, including the border region including Trans Papua.
The three dams are the Sindangheula dam in Banten, Rotiklod dam in East Nusa Tenggara and Bintang Bano dam in West Nusa Tenggara, with combined construction costs of Rp 1.87 trillion (US$137 million).
“We have conducted auctions since September for projects to be carried out in 2016. So, that’s a wrap for the 13 contracts,” he said.
He said the construction contract for Bintang Bano dam was awarded to state-own construction firm PT Brantas Abipraya and PT Bahagia Bangunnusa, while that for Rotiklot dam was given to state-run construction firm PT Nindya Karya and PT Universal Suryaprima.
Meanwhile, the construction contract for the Sindangheula dam was awarded to other state-own construction firms PT PP Tbk and PT Hutama Karya.
Previously, the ministry signed contracts for the other 10 dams, which are spreading nationwide and include the Tapin dam in South Kalimantan, Sei Gong dam in Riau, as well as Raknamo dam in East Nusa Tenggara. The total cost of all the dam projects are estimated to reach Rp 9.2 trillion.
During the signing, Mudjiadi also reiterated the ministry’s commitment to keep the development of the dams safe and clean.
The ministry also revealed that it will sign construction contracts for eight new dams next year, which would include Ciawi dam worth Rp1.69 trillion and Sukamahi dam worth Rp1.1 trillion, both in West Java.
The ministry plans to offer another 2,103 projects by December to reduce the number of project tender process to be held in January.
The ministry received the highest budget allocation from the 2016 State Budget with a total of Rp104.1 trillion. (*)
