President Widodo expects Indonesian economy to grow over 6% in 2018

JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) - President Joko Widodo expects Indonesia’s economic growth to reach above 6 percent in the State Budget for 2018 Fiscal Year. He admitted that this is not an easy task to achieve. Next year, the government sets economic growth target at 5.1 percent.

“I think the most important thing is that the investment must grow by above 10 percent. I don’t know what is the growth (of investment) last year or this eyar. Perhaps the Head of BKPM (National Investment Coordinating Board) could provide estimations and what we have to do,” President Joko Widodo said during a plenary cabinet meeting at the State Palace on Nov. 2.

The President added that the other sectors of the economy could support. Consumption should grow by above 5 percent, exports should be boosted to above 4 percent and imports to grow by at least 2-3 percent.

In the 2017 Fiscal Year, the President asked the government officials to immediately prepare for the implementation of the State Budget by immediately preparing for the pre-auctions and others, so that in January everything can really kick off.

This year, according to the President, the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing, Ministry of Transportation and the Ministry of Agriculture have already started the implementation of the State Budget, which will follow with acutions in January next year.
