JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Thousands of protester are protesting the Tauhid flag burning for the second time in the central Jakarta, on Friday (02/11). According to the Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Commissioner Rome Hutajulu the crowds gathered around the Horse Statue were estimated to reach 6,000 peoples.
“Our mapping that moves from Istiqlal Mosque is approximately 6,000 demonstrators,” he told reporters around the protester areas.
Meanwhile related to security, the Metro Jaya Regional Police together with the Central Jakarta Metro Police deployed up to 70 companies of troops, or the equivalent of 12,000 troops.
Similar actions have also taken place in a number of regions, including in Garut, West Java, the place where the flag bearing the Tawhid word is burned during the commemoration of the National Santri Day last month.
All areas in Medan Merdeka Street are sterilized by officers. The mass is only limited in the area of the Horse Statue.
The mass of action seemed to carry white and black flags with the words Tawhid. Before arriving around the Horse Statue, they first perform Friday prayers at Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta.
Commenting on 211’s action, Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto said the action was no longer relevant because the police had acted and determined several suspects.
He also mentioned that religious leaders in various discussion events also invited the public to solve this problem by way of deliberation.
