JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories)–The opposition coalition has finally decided to endorse Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno as the vice presidential candidate to Prabowo Subianto. Prabowo announced his decision to run with Sandiaga Uno at the eleventh hour on Thursday, August 9, 2018. Here is Sandi Uno business and long carrier:
Businessman-turned-politician Sandiaga Uno was born in Pekanbaru, Riau, Indonesia on June 28, 1969. Sandi Uno graduated from US Wichita State University with Summa Cum laude.
Sandi started his carrier as an employee of Bank Summa in 1990. One year after, he got a scholarship to continue his study at George Washington University. He graduated from the university with Grade Point Average 4.
Then in 1993, he joined Seapower Asia Investment Limited in Singapore as an investment manager and also in MP Holding Limited Group since 1994. In 1995, he moved to NTI Resources Ltd in Kanada and served as Executive Vice President NTI Resource Ltd with US$ 8000 per month in income. But, the 1997 economic crisis had caused his company bankrupt.
Sandi Uno could no longer continue his job. He returned home to Indonesia unemployed. However, it was a turning point in his life, Sandi Uno then changed his view and turned into a businessman.
In 1997, Sandi Uno established a financial adviser company PT Recapital Advisors along with his high school mate, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani. One of their business mentors is William Soeryadjaya, the founder of Astra Group. Then in 1998, Sandi Uni and Edwin Soeryadjaya, the son of William established an investment company PT Saratoga Investama Sedaya. The company business ranges from mining, telecommunication, and forestry.
Sandi Uno was very successful in his business due to the broad network of companies and financial institution inside and outside Indonesia. The company collects investor’s capital and then acquire companies in financial troubles. The companies in crisis were cleared up and developed. After those companies become healthy then the assets will be sold at a higher price. Until 2009, there have been 12 companies that were taken over by Saratoga. Some of the companies were re-sold, among other PT Dipasena Citra Darmaja, PT Bank Tabungan Pensiunan Nasional and PT Astra Microtronics.
In 2005-2008, Sandi Uno became the chairman of The Association of Young Indonesian Businesspeople (Hipmi). He was also the chairman of the standing committee for Indonesia Chambers of Commerce ‘s Small And Medium Enterprise Division since 2004.
In 2007, Uno was crowned as the 122nd richest man in Indonesia by Globe Asia magazine with total assets of his company reaches US$ 80 million. While in 2008, he was named as a newcomer in the list of 40 richest men in Indonesia by Forbes magazine. The magazine wrote that Sandi Uno has a total wealth of US$ 400 million and ranked 29th richest in Indonesia.
Sandi Uno served as directors of some companies including PT Adaro Indonesia, PT Indonesia Bulk Terminal, PT Mitra Global Telekomunikasi Indonesia. Interra Resource Limited, PT iFORTE SOLUSI INFOTEK.
In May 2011, he decided to buy 51% of Mandala Airline’s share. On April 16, 2015, he resigned from his position as one of the directors of PT Adaro Energy Tbk. On June 10, 2015, he officially resigned from his position as the CEO of PT Saratoga Investama Sedaya Tbk. He also resigned from his positions in some of the companies and focused on his new job as the Deputy Chairman of the Advisory Council of Gerindra Party. His position in Saratoga was replaced by Michael Soeryadjaya, the son of Edwin Soeryadjaja and the grandson of Astra International founder William Soeryadjaya.
Sandi Uno was inaugurated as Jakarta ‘s deputy governor on October 16, 2018, after a bitter 2017 Jakarta ‘s election.
