JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati on Thursday afternoon installed Robert Pakpahan as new Director General for Taxation, replacing Ken Dwijugiasteadi, who will end his term on Dec. 1.
Pakpahan was installed after President Joko Widodo named him as new Director General for Taxation. Pakpahan was previously holding the post as Director General for Financial and Risk Management at the Finance Ministry,
The new tax Director-General is facing mounting pressure on achieving tax revenues target of Rp1,283.6 trillion. As of Nov. 30, the tax revenues have reached Rp1,001.2 trillion, or 78% of the full year target.
The Tax Office still needs to chase Rp282.4 trillion to meet the full year tax revenues target set in the State Budget.
Some observers have said that this year’s tax revenues are likely to fall short of the target, on the back subdued economic growth.
The Head of Indonesian Employers’ Association (Apindo) hopes that the new Tax Director General will improve the trust of the public on the tax office.
