Insider Stories - Indonesia government dna West Java, DKI Jakarta and Banten provincial administration soon will build Ciawi Dam in Bogor, to curb flood in the three areas.
The agreement is materialized in the Forum of Cooperation Agency or Development (BKSP) in Jakarta, Bogor, Depok Tangerang, Bekasi, Puncak, and Cianjur (Jabodetabekpunjur) attended by Ministry of Public Works, Muhammad Hasan, regional leaders in Katulampa Dam, Bogor.
Governor of DKI Joko Widodo and Governor of West Java, Ahmad Heryawan, discussed elaborately the plan to construct Ciawi dam which is so far only a plan. It is predicted to reduce water flow from Ciliwung river to Jakarta in rainy season.
The two leaders expect the construction will really start in 2015. The project is predicted to spend IDR1.9 trillion and takes 3 years of construction.
Heryawan assumes the construction is a big step that must soon be carried out to curb flood in Jakarta. He argued other than Ciawi dam, there is another dam to build, but not yet determined in terms of location, yet it is predicted to run toward the downstream point. The dam is predicted to accommodate water flow so far always flowing into Jakarta.
President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has called on the regional governments to remain alert for potential natural disasters as the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has forecast bad weather to continue until March.
He also instructed the heads of regional governments in the affected regions to handle the flood problem on a priority basis. President has coordinated with Jakarta, West Java, North Sumatra, Jambi, Bengkulu, Central Java, and Maluku governors on this matters.
He hoped that the relief and rescue operations in the various parts of the country are handled efficiently by the heads of the regional governments in their respective regions. If the regional budget does not suffice for flood mitigation efforts, they can request for financial assistance from the central government.
