JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories)—Democrat Party finally supports Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno’s presidential bid.
Democrat Party‘s High Council Deputy Chairman E.E. Mangindaan announced its support in a press conference in the Democrat Party Leader Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY)’s residence in Kuningan, South Jakarta on Friday (10/8). Mangindaan announced it without SBY but accompanied by Democrat’s elite officials namely Deputy Roy Suryo, Deputy Syarif Hasan, Deputy Max Sopacua, and Honor Council Chief Amir Syamsuddin.
“The Democrat’s High Council in this morning decided to back Prabowo Subianto-Sandiaga Uno presidential candidate,” he said.
He added the party has conducted an internal survey asking the opinion of party’s Central Board, Regional Representatives Council, the House of Representative, and Regional Legislative Councils regarding presidential candidates. As a result, 62 percent chose Prabowo and 38 percent chose Joko Widodo.
Mangindaan said the party decided to back Subianto-Uno based on the survey results and communication with Subianto and supporting political parties. He added the Democrat decision would further strengthen support for the Subianto-Uno’s bid to win the presidential election.
The Democrat Party previously wanted his cadre Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, the son of party founder former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, to run as Subianto’s running-mate in 2019. But Subianto chooses Uno, a Gerindra Party cadre and Jakarta Deputy Governor.
