JAKARTA (TheInsiderStories) – Minister for Social Affairs had submitted his resignation from the President Joko Widodo after being named a suspect in a graft case by the Coruption Eradication Comission, said the senior official on Friday (24/08).
“I have conveyed to Mr. President on my resignation,” said the minister Idrus Marham in Presidential Palace.
He has also admitted has sent a letter of resignation from his position as secretary general of Golkar Party to the chairman Airlangga Hartanto. “I also resign from Golkar ‘s stewardship” he said.
The reason for the resignation is his alleged involvement in Riau-1 coal fired power plant which already ensnared Golkar politician Eni Saragih. Marham has been summoned by corruption Eradication Commision for a couple of time.
He also admitted that he has received a notification letter on the investigation of a case allegedly involving him. Idrus said the investigation of the alleged bribery case of Riau -1 coal fired power plant has shown his status as suspect.
“Yes I have received the letter yesterday afternoon,based on that I resign,” Marham stated.
Idrus admitted that he respects the legal process in the corruption watchdog and ready to face the legal process.
“I respect, if I am summoned I will come. Because we are not only fighters, activist, political elite, we have to show an example for the people and I am ready to face all. Whatever allegations, I leave them,” He said.
Marham has been appointed by President Joko Widodo as new Minister for Social Affairs, replacing Khofifah Indar Parawansa on Jan. 17, 2018. Parawansa has resigned after decided to enter a race to become East Java governor in the upcoming regional election.
Marham, 55 years old, was born in South Sulawesi. He earned his doctorate degree at University of Gajah Mada on politics. In 1997, he was a member of the People’s Consultative Assembly.
Through Golkar Party, he became member of the House of Representatives for three periods, namely in 1999-2004, 2004-2009 and 2009-20014, representing South Sulawesi Province, Region III. In 2011, he resigned as member of DPR and decided to concentrate on the Golkar party affairs.
